Individuals that are training in the advanced MMA program at Tiger Muay Thai for more than 14 days will be expected to have the following training gear; *16oz Boxing Gloves *Hand Wraps *Shin Pads *8oz “Shooto” style MMA glove
*If individuals do not have training gear upon arrival they can purchase it in the Tiger Muay Thai Gear shop (usually at about 60% of the International cost). The camp has several pairs of “loaners” for individuals training at the camp for less than one week. As a professional it is important to have your own training gear, it decreases the sharing of bodily fluids and prevents the spread of preventable infections. Many of the camp fighters enjoy taking advantage of the cheaper prices Thailand has to offer on training supplies.
Saturday is open mat, which starts at noon and goes until everyone leaves. Open Mat is similar to a school "Study Hall". Students can work on whatever they want to improve, and the instructor will be available for questions. Many of the students use the time for extra rolling.
Note: students participating in the advanced MMA program are also expected to have atleast a year of a striking based martial art.
*Grappling Arts include; Judo, Sambo, CatchWrestling, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
I've been training in mma for 2 years, but ive never done wrestling or jiu jitsu by themselves. I think i lack in many technical areas in this respect. If i wanted to improve my sweeps and submissions as well as technical knowledge would i be better off in the beginner or advanced class.
Our mma club comes from a more wrestling based background and jiu jitsu is something i really want to work on impoving while im there. I was thinking of doing one thai boxing and one mma class a day.
Although i might end up going to two mma classes or mabye even one day doing two mma classes and the next day doing 1 mma class and 1 muay thai, not sure which is the best way to work it.
Hi Brian, Dont worry too much about how to best spend your time while at Tiger, no matter how you break it up you will certainly improve your game, having great coaches who can help in all areas and turn weaknesses into strengths is fantastic, coupled with the pure amount of training hours and the endless line of new friends/training partners will help you get the most out of your time. How long are you are you at Tiger and when do you arrive? Geoff (Gordie) UK
I arrive at TMT on 3rd of May. I'm staying for 1 month. I am hoping too train twice a day from monday to friday and then open mat on sat. As i said i really want to improve all aspects of my game but espically my ground game. I am quite heavy, so i think in the past i kind of used my weight as opposed to technique to grapple. As a result i always struggle against people of a similar weight, espically now as im losing some weight im finding it harder to dominate people. So i really want to get very technical, with technique, i want to work alot on my guard as im not very dangerous from my back, i want to work on subs etc basically everything lol.
I think im just worring that i wont have enough time to improve as much areas as i want too! cCant wait to get over there!
Hey Brian, Just got back to the UK a couple of weeks ago after ten days at the camp, planning to get back within the next couple of months so hopefully be there when you are. trust me you will improve and having a goal for what you would like to concentrate on will help for sure. you will find the training is world class in both stand up and ground fighting, MMA trainers are very technical but also having the chance to drill the basics until they become natural reactions is a wonderfull thing. I am sure you will find you pick up a huge amount from others training at the camp and just having such a large amount of matt time. A month will be awesome, trust me within 5 minutes we made friends for life at the camp, i am sure you will too. Look forward to rollin with you bro. Where are you training at the mo?
hey,im one of the mma coaches. i have a very good guard and can say that its one of my best attributes on the ground.we can def help you improve your guard game and sub's. you will learn that its not just bout how big or strong you are,im of the opion that if you execute proper technique then 9/10 times you will prevail. you will be working with Ray who is by far one of the best coaches around. by the time you go home you will be a different fighter
I can't wait to get out there and get training. Wade which of the mma clases do you think would suit my needs best or would you recommend both? I see in the schedule you only do about 30 minutes technique, so i assume you show people like one or two techniques then let them go and work on it?
Geoff, hope to see you there in may! i'll look forward to getting tapped repeatedly
"Circuit training will include fight simulation and technical skills valuable to an actual fight situation."
Really good to read that. Lot's of guys do just crazy circuits and such, but does it really apply to fighting? Not necessarily. Yes, a degree of general conditioning is important, but you're not gonna do 1000 squats in your fight. Sharkbait!
hey guys, im pleased to announce that ill be joining you from nov 18 through jan 20.. i have a couple of years jiujitsu experience and have been focusing on no gi for the last 8 months or so. i want to train hard and learn, but i also thrive on being able to pitch in, help and be a productive member of the team. i hope to stay in either the tropical garden or the ban suwaan bungalows. my main goal is to get a good fundamental muay thai base, and really focus on my jiujitsu with the final goal competing at the nevertap in the 205 division. im 28 born and raised in brooklyn ny, i work in the music and marketing tour industry, im 6 foot 3 and right now walk around at 240 lbs, i can wait to meet and train and live with the tiger family... thanks
how ya doing,im coming over on jan 26th for 3 months training,im i gonna be able to just walk in and get 3 months training and a bed or do i need to book, its the mma training im after,if u could get back to me id b greatful, cheers!
This is a great post. I think that strength and conditioning for mixed martial artists and fighters is still in its infancy in terms of developing programs for optimal performance and we can expect a lot of growth in this area over the next couple years.
Planning on coming over to Tiger for three months June next year (will try and get a month the end of the year too if I can get the money together in time!)
Main question is this: - the website offer Deluxe and VIP packages including a private session a day. If I wanted to do my private session in MMA/BJJ, is that allowed and if not...what would be the best suggestion?
A reply on here or via email would be great. Cheers guys!
You can arrange private MMA / BJJ private sessions with your choice of one of our MMA program instructors through the office or by talking to the instructor to see when he is available.
Hello, I trained at Tiger for about a month last year to start learning BJJ/MMA. It was fantastic and Ray Elbe is a great BJJ instructor. He runs a good training session. In one of my talks with him, he said that in an ideal world, he would take a beginner through a fundamentals training plan that he could cover in about 10 privates. What plan would I have to sign for that would get me the MMA morning group training and a MMA private with Ray daily covering those fundamentals?
